Invisalign® is a customized orthodontic treatment with clear removable aligners fabricated in the United States. The treatment with Invisalign® consists of a series of transparent plastic retainer-like aligners created using complicated 3-dimensional scanning technology to simulate desired teeth movements over time. Because they are completely transparent in color, unless you look very closely, it’s almost impossible to tell that a person is wearing Invisalign®. Fabrication of aligners is customized for each patient, and hence the treatment has high accuracy and effectiveness. However, due to the different technology, Invisalign® is offered only by Invisalign®-certified orthodontists and may not be right for everyone.
What are the advantages of Invisalign®?
he Invisalign® aligners are removable so you can take them off when you drink, eat, and brush. The aligners are thin but strong and they have smooth edges, therefore, they do not irritate the gums or cheeks. The transparency of aligners enables the patient to receive orthodontic treatment “invisibly”.
Am I a candidate for Invisalign®?
Due to the difference in technology from traditional braces, consult your orthodontist to decide if you are a suitable Invisalign® candidate. Determining factors include severity of dental and skeletal problems, complications and risks involved, and expectations from patients. Invisalign® can be used alone or combined with other orthodontic treatment. When you begin treatment, you'll wear each set of aligners in approximately two-week increments. The aligners gently move your teeth into position, and at the end of each two-week period, you "graduate" to the next set of custom aligners. The more you wear your aligners, the faster the target can be reached and the closer you are to the smile you’ve dreamed of!
